dressed to me and to the Multan of Lahej 9 show that the
Kotaitoi vent to Lahej and was received with honour by
Baeed Pa^ha; that he $ade his submission to him and
entered into an agreement with him. He stayed there
seven days. In his letter he explains that he is still
our loyal and devoted friend, but that guile had to he
met by guile and the only way to save himself and his
country was subterfuge*
I enclose you copies of letters received from
the Kaiti Sul ten and from the Upper Aulaki Sheikh*
During my visit to i?okalla in Kay the Sultan told me
that his Minister who has great influence with the trib«

tion to find out the stats of affairs in the Hadramaut*
His report is now furnished. The Aulaki letters dated
some time back corroborate his report* Both speak very

Turks are working together and endeavouring to raise s

communications dated 20 th June from the Ifcaiti sultan
