Dated the end of Jumad-akhir 1334—24-4-16.
Accompaniment to letter dated the end of Jumad-akhir 1334 (2nd May 1916) from
the Upper Aulaki Sheikh.
In the name of God the Merciful, the Compassionate.
The Exalted has said :—
“ And who speaketh fairer than he who biddeth to God.”
^ N,
And the Exalted has said :—
“ Oh our people ; Obey the summoner of God."
We summon towards the full biddings and give a general advice.
From— Ahmed Nasir-ar-Rounel, Imam’s Leader of Forces,
To— Sheikh Mohsin-bin-Farid, al-Aulaki.
In obedience to the words of the Exalted i.e., “ Obey God and obey the apostle
and those in command with you ” we summon him to obey the biddings of God
and His Apostle and Their Caliph over His people on God’s land. It is a known fact
that our lord and the lord of the Moslems, the Amir of the Faithful and the Depen
dent on God the Lord of the Universe is in command in this auspicious prince.
He has despatched us with the army in company with, our brother Saif Al-Khilafa
Saiyid Mohamed Al-Mutawakkil to the Eastern tract for the purpose of safeguard
ing it from the guile of the frustrated Ferenghis and for making a severance of the
relations existing between them and the Sunni Arab Chiefs. Of the news very
often received by the Amir of the Faithful, Turkish officers and ourselves, we learn
that you and his honour Amir Saleh bin Abdallah al-Aulaki are of those who have
linked themselves with the Government of the erring and misleading Christians in
friendliness and amity. It is not hidden to the people of Islam that (subject to
the words of God “ any one of you who subjects himself to their command is really
one of them) their friendship (May God frustrate them) is one of the heinous crimes
and abominable disgrace. We now inform you that the solidarity of interests of
our lord the Imam and may God preserve him and that of the Sublime Porte have
become identically one and the same for the purpose of driving away by the help of
God the cursed Christians from the belessed clime of Yemen and for the purpose of
occupying the whole of that province. We therefore, oh Sheikh Mohsin and
Amir Saleh, request you and all your tribesmen to go to his honour Ali Saeed
Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. the Commandant of the Force in general and the Commanding of the
Islamic armies who is now domiciling Lahej and to help him in the Jihad in the
way of God so that you may win the favour of God and His Paradise. Be
prepared to gain victory and to obtain the lion’s share in the booty. If you find
it difficult to go to him then hasten towards us and you shall be safe from suffering
evil or anything which you would dislike. Please reply of what you think. When
you have made up your mind to come to us please inform us and we shall send you
Saiyid Ahmed Abdalla and Saiyid Hason bin Ali al-Ahdal who will accompany
you as far as the houses of Sheikh Mohamed Qaid or Sheikh Abdul Karim. If
your intention is otherwise, then you shall repent and at that stage repentance will
be of no avail to you. You shall suffer a sjhiilar punishment as the Abdalis when
they opposed the Islamic forces. Bewail, beware against following Saiyid
Atiq or listening to the correspondence of Saiyid Alawi al-Jifri because they do
not admire our lord the Imam may God rescue him. Further please understand
