Sultan Hussein “bin Ahmed and asked him to come and see him
at Shukra and perhaps accompany him to Aden as our guest.
^ This he did as Sultan Abdul Kadir has at last realised
that so long as his grandfather is there intrigues with the
Turks will never cease and he desires to get him to Aden if
possible. Sultan Hussein however declined to come from his
hill fort.
Sayed ivustafa el Edrisi has returned to jaizan for
the Id. He seemed a little depressed about affairs in
general owing to the delay in granting assistance. He ^
proposes to return here soon unless we se nd Major
An unfortunate incident occurred at Khor ^ Qneirj d few
days ago in vftiich two men belonging to H.M.b.Luffertfin
were wounded. The "Duffer in” bad sent a boat ashore to
examine dhows. There seems to have been some element of
suspicion among the Arabs, which came to a head vfcen the
boats crew were re-embarking and one of the crew accident
ally let off his rifle. The Arabs fired six rounds only
apparently and wounded two men and shot the officer through
the sleeve of his shirt. The boat replied with six rounas
but does not know if any casualties occurred. Me have had
no reports or complaints from the Arabs yet but enquiries
are being made. It is difficult to understand the reason
as that coast has always been friendly and Europeans have
landed there quite recently. It is possible that the
actual firers may not have been fran Khor Qneira but a
detachment of the "Milleh 1 from Lahej.
Yours sincerely,
