things going to them from the interior. In order to carry this into effect, we have
promulgated the above by beat of tom-tom in all markets and the outskirts of
Lahej, to the effedythat they should cease taking any goods, etc., such at kat,
coffee, skins, warek fruit, vegetable, kirbie, grass, firewood, and all other things
whether much or little as it is entirely prohibited. Whoever disobeys the order
by taking anything (to Aden) he will be liable to loss of both life and property.
We are not responsible (to God) for his sake. We have issued stringent orders
on all soldiers to carefully watch and arrest all those trying to disobey our orders.
You (Shaikhs) should also announce proclaim and warn all your sons, relatives
and followers not to go to Aden with any goods, but they should comply with the
orders. You should also point out to them that those who assist the enemy of
their religion stand in same position of those who are fighting in combination with
him.
Those who fight with their brethren, are, may God protect us, losers of their
fortunes both in the present and next world. Whoever commits a breach of this
notification and is subjected to any misfortune, he should blame no one but
himself. He who gives a warning or previous notice he is no longer blameable nor
answerable for any incident. You should also announce to your people that all
those who take their goods to Lahej markets are free of payment of taxes, with
effect from the 1st day of Ramazan 1334. The privileges and customs hitherto
received by the tribesmen shall continue to be given to them.
