To—The Foreign Secretary to the Government of India in the Foreign and Political
Department, Simla.
Our friend the Fulesi Sheikh-Akil has come in to Aden. He says that he had
a private interview with Sultan Husen bin Ahmed, the Fadh, in the course of whic
the oM Sultan asked him to find out from the Abdah Sultan and others whether
we are likely to pardon him and grant him a safe conduct to Aden. He is aW of
our detaining him, as we did some years ago for being implicated in the mu d
of his brother (vide pages 37 and 38 of the “ Arab Tribes m the \ icmity of Aden ).
f have taken no notice of this indirect statement of Fadli Sultan, for I have mo, e
than once told him he could come in to Aden and need fear no! king. I do not
propose to invite him now for occasion might be taken by h.s grandson to depose
him and we should be accused of abetting.
The Sultan appears to have lost faith in the Turks who, he complained, had
not fulfilled one out of the many promises made to him.
2 The Fulesi himself complains that the irrigation of his lands has been
stopped under the orders of Said
