i i 4ihannaci bin t-uhaciraad al Haddad A1 Alawi mio is believe
to be in the Upper Auloki coi-mtiy and ( 5 ) to our sti
pendiary Sheikh llohsin i^arid ef Upper Aulaki. Ho, ( 1 )
is a grovel3 ing script containing 15 lines of prelimi*
nary adulation, ?hi» Saiyid is one ef first importance
in the ^ladramaut* It appears from letter Ho,( 2 ) that
some correspondence has been going on between the
Kathiri Multan and Said i’aeha over the signing of a
treaty with the Turkish Uorerniaent, draft copies of
which Said ^asha has sent all over our Hinterland # ?he
Kathiri had protested that for him to sign at this time
would draw upon him our wrath and the result would be
the closing of okall.a to his imports by sea,and further
the confiscation of his propertlee in Singapore etc,
&aid P?isha realised the difficulty; congratulated the
Sultan on his loyalty to the house of Ottoman and told
him that after a month peace m>uld. be signed, and the
way clear for Turkish aggrandisement of lands now under
British influence, The letter Ho,(l) was written in a
similar strain enjoining on the Saiyid Al bakkaf the
necessity for hie losing no time in smoothing the way
for the acceptance shortly of Turkish rule over these
British tracts, better ho,( 3 ) was a remonstrance and a
thtoat to the kokalla bultan’s ^azir for having accept
ed a British decoration (13aan H^xadur) much was only
defiling (sic) the Wasir’s neck l The w&zir f said
baid i'asha, was a wise man and yet it was his (kasha's)
principal duty to warn him of the evil consequences of
his present attitude to Turkey,
