Your early reply is also
solicited in regard to the
steamers
kindly write to Government about all our demands as soon as
possible viz regarding the ar ms and our present request in
this letter. We have incurred heavy expenses. You should assist
us by shewing your power on our side, sending a Man-of-War
every now and then, and supplying us with ammunition, arms and
guns. You should also send soldiers in the Men-of-War to come
down (land) on our port and then return. We say so because, we
believe that when the enemy comes to know of this, he will be
come much frightened. You are better acquainted with this af
fairs. We have also received a letter from Sayed Husen purportiii
that Saeed Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. sent a letter to all the people of Hadramout
together with a draft agreement (in order that they may sign it)
copy of which has been sent to us and we herewith attach it for
your perusal. He is pressing Ahl Hadramout to tender submission
either willingly or by force. They became in a perplaxed state,
and do not know what reply they should send him. However if
they have decided to send a reply, we will let you have a copy
of it. There is no doubt that the Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. is bearing enmity for
us, because Xbn Abdalia Al-Kathiri, has set him up against us,
on account of our friendship with the British Government. Our
enemies habe been inciting him against us. We have oh friend,
many enemies, because we and our relatives have subjugated
the people here by the sword hence they (people) bear enmity
for us and want to seize this opportunity for resentment.
As regards the Ibn Abdalla Al-Kathiri, he is an enemy
but he falsely shews his friendships to us. Say e d Kusen i arther
reports that he is not acting according to the terms of his pre
vious treaty. This is solely to the continous letters he re-
q gives from Sae<W. Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. .
Meanwhile we request you to kindly direct your attention
towardd us and our ports . You should not neglect the matter
| and say that nothing will take place. By slackness & negligence
opportunities are lost. We rely solely on God and expect that
you will supply us with all our requirements viz men, rands an*
