for Joma prayers on Fridays and pays occasional visits to the Governmen^iouse
only. The country is being administered by the officers of the Imam viz. Syedi
Zaid and another called A1 Izzi.
The number of the Turkish troops at Sana does not exceed one battalion of
800 men only and they are in a very bad condition on account of want of food,
clothing, etc.
Imam Yehia Hamid-ad-din has with him 4 battalions of Turkish troops.

Extract from the note of interview accorded to Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Turkish
'prisoner in the jail at Aden.
The A1 Hada tribe formerly owed allegiance to the Imam and assisted him in
all troubles, but now they are at loggerheads with him. Two months ago they had
a severe fight with the Imam in which more than 1,000 men were killed from both
sides. The cause of the rising as the complainants say is the Imam’s co-operation
with or consent to the tyrannies which the Turks are practising over the Arabs.
I he grumbling tribe is said to have been reduced to extreme misery by over
taxation, etc.
