would not stop hostilities and he at once tele
graphed (th^n this was on SrdDhulKada) to Elias Bay at Baadan to attack Jebel
Meerah ana destroy all the Shaikh’s houses and buildings. The Turks attacked
the hill on the next day and after some fighting captured it on the third day. The
Shaikh and his Zaidees (about 600) with Yahy a Alshayif and his son Muhammad
Yahya fled to Jebel Ras. All the Shaikh’s houses were destroyed and his money
( specie) and grain (about 5,000 bags ) were captured by the Turks. It is said
that the Shaikh was able to remove about 6 or 8 camel loads of specie only. The
Shaikh’s object in negotiating with Saeed

was to gain time to enable him to
remove all his specie, grain, etc.
This man says that Jebel Baadan was also captured by the Turks and the
Zaidees with their Chief Kasim bin Kayid have gone to Jebel Ras also. There
are now about 2,000 of Alshayif’s and Kasim’s followers on Jebel Ras, the others
having gone to their villages. This man attributes the Arab’s failure to gain
a victory over the Turks to want of attillery and to the fact that all these Zaidees
have got their families, properties, etc., in villages within reach of the Turks. The
Alshayif is now expecting at Jebel Ras some of the Zaidees wdio live beyond Sana,
but whether they will come now after hearing of Shaikh Muhammad Hasan's
defeat no one knows.
This man says that the Turks have made a settlement with Abu Ras’ son and
appointed him a Shaikh in his father’s place.
