excessively difficult to get anyone to go out to make enquiries. I hope to have
some definite information of the Imam’s movements before long as I have three or
four men out trying to deliver letters to him.
8 It is probably true that a certain amount more goods from Aden is reaching
Lahei'at present. This is due to the greater activity the lurks are at present
displaying in trying to cut the trade routes We know they have captured
one big caravan of 08 camels near Dala, but have heard of no others as yet. ,
9. Since the capture of Kunfidah I have heard no more of the Idrisi’s move
ments. He may be delayed < wing to the need of guns, about which we are in
correspondence with India and Egypt. As far as small arms and ammunition and
rifles go, we shall probably be able to keep him supplied for the present.
One thousand one hundred and twelve cases of arms and ammunition are being
landed here to-day from Marseilles and two million rounds of Wetterh ammunition
should leave Marseilles about next week.

Dated Aden Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. , the (received the 27th) July 1915.
Endorsed by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. , Aden.
Copy forwarded, with compliments, to the Deputy Secretary to the Govern-
ment of India in the Foreign and Political Department, Simla.
• Notification.
Out of the several mercies of the Sublime Turkish Government and the
sympathy they entertain for their subjects they have abolished most of the income
they get out of taxes in all their territories. As an acknowledgment, of the
blessings bestowed by the Almighty God on us and m order to express out thanks
to Him for the successes He had given us, we have abolished all taxes on goods,
iawari, vegetables, fruits, etc., which used to be levied at the markeWof Fahej. •
We have done so owing to our being not in need of same, as a mark of sympathy
for the inhabitants, poor classes and all tribesmen coming to Lahej, m order to
render facilities to traders and as an encouragement for them so that they may
bring their goods, properties, cattle and all that they have to Lahej mar e .
They are free of payment of any tax but they should cease going to Aden with
goods to the enemy of their religion as such (goods) shall be of some help to him
(enemy) against them.
On hearing that some of the wicked and ill-tempered merchants of Aden
w T ho are espousing the cause of the enemies of God and who have sold their religion
for the religion of their enemy, have bought [three aeroplanes out of their own
private money, as an assistance to the enemies of the religion against t eir
brethren the" Mossalmans, we became very much displeased. Had these
aeroplanes been solely used on our soldiers, we would not have cared but our
regret is that because they caused a h^fvoc and terror in the minds of the \\
children, weak-hearted and poor claves of men. They (enemies) have displayed
their power by throwing bombs on the mosques and the dwelling-housed ot
Mossalmans. Such action is against humanity and civilization rules. Even t mug
these endeavours were not effective and God caused these stratagems to failure,
yet the demonstration they have shown, exposed their bad nature and failure
and revealed their hatred.
The enemies ceased allowing every man coming out of Aden and other parts
to take any supplies, on the pretext that the Mossalmans shall not submit to - em
unless pressed by need to do so. The enemies do not know that the Mqssalmans
are not in need of their supplies and are satisfied with that they have with them.
They worship no one other than their Creator and nothing attracts their attention
but the defence of their religion and security of their homes.
We have been in the past, allowing the going of Kat and all other requirements
to Aden, because we knew that our brethren the Mossalmans were using it, bu o
seeing that some of them ventured to espouse the cause of the enemy o
religion, who set them up against their brethren, we thought it incumbent o ,
from a religious point of view, to deal with them as they did with us and stop
