Th« Wahidi Sultan of BalahaT wr__it«* that he has
(*- iu receiTed an invitation to go to Jj&hej but that he relies
on the British Government and the Kuwaiti Sultan. He has
sent in Saiyid Abdallah Abdul Jahbar^ an influential Man*
sab of the Aulaki and Fadli countries. The latter reports
that Ibn Abdallah the Eathir i Sultan and the Kuwaiti are
now friendly (vide last weefc^s letter) and that recently
no communications have been received in the Eadramaut
from the Imam*
The Mansab further reports that the Turks at LaheJ
made overture* to AHL BEIYKB and AI« •ADAM, vho inhabit
the Lower Aulaki coast, and that on their return from
Lahej, Said
Pasha
An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders.
gave them flags and told them to open
s new harbour at A1 Uawir, place between Haura and Irka;
that the Saiyid of Ahl A1 Bait! of HajaX (Hadramaut- and
th« Sheikh of Bil id,one Ibn al As-hab, have also received
Turkish flags*
Theoretically the Lower Aulaki Sultau is responsible
for these tracts (other than Hajar) but he is only a no
minal ruler inland; and as an illustration of this I may
quote the occasion ufoen a schooner landed a party of six
Germans at Sheikha Eurba - vid® Weekly Letter dated l8th
