/io.w m i f0 1 r mZ° U tl J a J we have arrived at D u’an on the 10th Jomad Akhar 1334
(Utli April Ulb), and found the status quo is maintained and the people are in
perfect calmness. We arranged the matters in the best desirable mamier.
On the 20th Rajab (23rd April 1916) we left Du’an for Hadramaut. We inter
viewed there the heads of the tribesmen such as Nahd, Al Ja’da, the principal
Sheikhs and Saiyids and tranquillized their minds. We have obtained from them
the necessary conventions ahd undertakings. We shall after this proceed to the
Kathiri, and after instituting full inquiry we shall inform you if there is any con
nection, correspondence, or intercourse between any of inhabitants and the Imam or
urks. With reference to rumours, there has been much reports concernins the
Zaidis coming to Hadramaut. W e have found some news in some letters (herewith
♦Not recieved. forwarded*) from the people cf Nisab
tt 'lv / j , . . , ( the capital of the Upper Aulaki Sultan) and
Habban (a town belonging to the Wahidi of Balahaf). We shall communicate to
you any other news which we might find, and do our utmost to frustrate the com-
mumcation which might be existing there (between the Imam, Turks, and the
inhabitants). We shall also deal with the rebels. At any rate, oh friend the
rumours are many and of various nature and they are unreliable. We shall how^
ever make minute enquiry and let you know hereafter about them.
May you be preserved !
As regards Kadi Atik, news has come from him to some people of Du’an telling
them that he has severed himself from Zaidis, because some letters have been
the feheikhs of the Aulakis directing them to co-operate with Saeed
