has spoken to him Tory highly about the Kadi and so he
is Tory anxious to see him and talk orer and aettle
matters relating to publie interests, personally. The

personal benefits accruing to him as the result of the
interflow sought for* The Kadi seems to hare his oen
doubts about the object of this invitation and Bays that
he has thought it best not to comply with it until he
learns my wishes in the matter and also the present state
of our relations with the Imam of Sanaa. He says he has
heard a rumour that we hare concluded a pact with the
Imam. He is probably referring here to the faets report-

my letter Ho.G-33g dated 15th Hay 1917 «
I hare advised the Kadi not to have anything to do
with Sef-el-Islam for the present. The Imam is probably
taking all advantage he can of the disturbed state of the
country and endeavouring to oolleot tithes from all and
sundry.
