In Aden itself all is normal with the exception of the
money market, which is very tight at present* The lack of
tonnage is causing considerable financial distress as the
bigger merchants are unable to export their goods. The bulk
of trade in Aden is done through the Bank on credit notes,
and the Bank is unable to advance money against these until
the documents for shipment are in their hands* Consequently
the merchants are unable to pay the dealers from whom they
have made purchases* The situation is bad but not critical,
though it is said that if the present state of affairs, i,e*
lack of tonnage, goes on for another fortnight there will be
considerable financial trouble*
