Works complains that since February 1917, demands for steel joists
amounting to over 3,000 have not yet been met. Itecent advices offer from
scattered stock only 1,880. In particular joists 15 inches by 5 inches wcit
ordered and reply received not available. Afterwards when India was asked
to make up girders in substitution, Works was informed supply of lo-inch by
5-inch could be made available. Owing to the heavy bridging requirements
of the Force it is hoped that you will be able to meet all demands. Under
stand Tata mills have recently rolled some hundreds of tons of joists for civil
works, Delhi. Other cases of delay in stores are being posted. Meantime
please expedite despatch of corrugated iron sheets, linseed oil,—boiled and raw r ;
turpentine, firebricks, hasps and staples, hinges, mild steel flat bars J inch by
10 inches, 3 inches by J inch, angle bars 3-inch by 3-inch by i inch, and mild
steel plates, nails wire, nuts hexagonal, screws tool steel, wire netting, paper
photographic, litho stores, files surface plate, engineers gauges, micometer,
blades for power saws, hack and rail sawing machines.
