h You should report all casualties in your force through G. H. Q., Meso
potamia, who will transmit to War Office or India through the usual channels*
After units casualty 3rd Echelon and Medical Units Mesopotamia should add
file words “Dunster Force ” without further indication of locality.
Deaths of Officers and N. C. O.s should also be wired by you to I). M. I»
repeating where necessary to India.
2. G. H. Q., Mesopotamia, will furnish as far as possible any medical and
ordnance stores which you are able to transport.
3* Major Whitmarsh is forwarding to you full financial instructions for
P a y of Imperial and Dominion personnel.

Persian Consul General came to me to-day with a telegram from Persian
Government regarding Nejef affair repeating report that our troops had
bombarded Nejef {See Dy. No. 6196)* I informed Persian Consul General
briefly of facts and he has wired them to his Government emphasising fact that
in spite of serious provocation not a single shot was fired at Nejef; that the
allegation is utterly unfounded and that action of British troops was in
scrupulous accordance with policy of British Government to respect Holy
Moslem places.

Your B.-3577, dated 4th February 1918 {Dy. No. 9769). Anticipate 4
Officers will embark by 14th February and that original demand for 10 will
be completed by end of current month. As regards 14 additional officers
demanded unable as yet to give probable date of supply. Only 3,450 men
for all Directorates can be shipped from date and to arrive in first week of
March. It is difficult to understand large sudden demand for railway labour
