not possible at present to replace him in Mesopotamia.
The Director, Military Intelligence, London, reported information that Constantinople was placarded with

M. O 1 Appreciation. —The withdrawal of the Turkish forces from the Caucasus and the stagnation of
the work towards Mosul point to an attempt on the part of the enemy to dispute our advance in
Syria, and justifies the risk of reducing the strength of Force “ D ” in order to increase that of the
Egyptian Expeditionary Force.
