Content

The volume consists of Enclosures to Despatches to the East India Company Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. , dated 1 January-12 April 1848. The despatches themselves are not included in the volume. The enclosures cover various events in Aden, India, Mesopotamia [Iraq], Persia [Iran], Sind [Sindh] and Somalia.
