Enclosures no. 2-7 to a despatch from the Secret Department, Bombay [Mumbai] Castle, dated 28 February 1848. The enclosures are dated 23 October 1847-26 February 1848. The enclosures consist of copies of correspondence relating to new passport regulations in Bagdad [Baghdad] imposed by the Government of the Ottoman Empire. The primary correspondents are the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in Turkish Arabia A term used by the British officials to describe the territory roughly corresponding to, but not coextensive with, modern-day Iraq under the control of the Ottoman Empire. and the Government of India.
