Postal
.850 • Instructions regarding changes of address will not be attended to by the Post
Office for a longer period than three months. During this interval officers should
notify their correspondents of their revised address.
Postal & Cemsership
. 8 51. General Routine Order No. 731, dated November 7th, 1917, is cancelled and
the following substituted :—
With a view to avoiding delay in the delivery of letters both in this Force and
abroad, special attention is called to the Postal instructions published below.
All members of the Force should keep their correspondents fully informed of their
correct address, which should consist of addressee’s regimental number (if any), rank,
name, squadron or company and the unit (regiment, battery or battalion) or the service
or department with which he is serving. The higher formations, viz :—Brigade.
Division or Army Corps are not permitted to appear in the address, except in the case
of individuals on or attached to the Headquarters of such formations. In such cases
the actual appointment held should appear.
This form of address is to be strictly adhered to and no futher information is to be
given,
ii. The attention of all ranks is drawn to Field Service Regulations, Part II,
Section 102, paragraph 1. The practice of mentioning the names of towns or the
numbers of Field Post Offices in addresses is forbidden and all ranks should warn their
correspondents accordingly.— Q-22.

NOTICES.
The following cable message received from Sunder Singh Hagetha, Amritsar,
addressed to Sikhs in Mesopotamia Force
" To our most Dear Brothers now serving the. Benign King-Emperor oversea,
the chief Khalsa Dewan tenders hearty and sincere greetings on the auspicious
Gurpurb of First Guru. You are upholding the name and fame of Gurupurb
our hearts are with vouand our prayers are that Satguru and Akalpurkh may
ever be with you and lead you to victory and return home safe after
vanquishing the King-Emperor’s foes with honour and flying colours.”

The volumes contain the General Routine Orders [until 25 September 1916 referred to as Force Routine Orders] by the Commander of Indian Expeditionary Force D between 28 December 1915 and 10 July 1918, along with annexures to these orders and lists issued with the orders. Topics covered include:

Physical characteristics

Foliation: this file consists of two physical volumes. The foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the first folio of volume one (ff 1-188) and terminates at the last folio of volume two (ff 189-378); these numbers are printed and are located in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio. The foliation sequence does not include the front and back covers of the two volumes. The sequence contains one foliation anomaly, f 308a.
