839. Generals Routine Order No. 42, of January 15th, 1917. is cancelled and the
following substituted :—
Directors and Officers Commanding Administrative Units will cause the service
books of all followers attached to their Departments or Units to be carefully inspected in
order to see 1 hat such service books are completed up to date and in a serviceable
condition. In the case of followers returnable to a Followers’ Central Depot, or to a
Jail Labour Depot, the abbreviated designation of the Depot should be stamped or
written clearly on the outside cover of the service book.
The abbreviated designations are :—
Followers Central Depot, Meerut ... MT/CD.
„ „ „ Kirkee ... KRK/CD. •
„ „ „ Lucknow ... LKO/CD.
„ „ Amritsar ... AMR/CD.
Jail Labour Depot, Sitapur ... JML.
In this connection, please see A.G. in India’s No. 52243/1 (A.G. ,2), dated September
17th, 1917. ' '
Further, to assist in disposing of followers who are returned to India on expiration
of contract, as inefficient, etc., or who may be invalided, the service books of followers
(I.A.F. K/1157) must in every case be completed as under ;—
Followers returned as inefficient, contract expired, etc., or tiny other reason,
except when invalided.
The Officer Commanding unit in the field will enter on page 3 of the Follower’s
service book (I.A.F K/1157) in the column indicating how the man was finally settled
with. Returned to India as inefficient,” or " Returned to India, contract expired,” etc.,

Physical characteristics

Foliation: this file consists of two physical volumes. The foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the first folio of volume one (ff 1-188) and terminates at the last folio of volume two (ff 189-378); these numbers are printed and are located in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio.
