The item concerns a request by Kemball for the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. to sanction his expenditure on presents for the ‘maritime chiefs’ during his recent tour of the ports of the Arabian side of the Gulf, and to approve the purchase of certain articles for future gifts. It contains a ‘statement of presents made by the Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. to the chiefs of the Arabian Coast submitted for the sanction of Government’ (f 571) and a ‘list of articles required from the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. for future presentation’ (f 572).
The item contains a table of contents (f 569), and the title page (f 568) contains the following references: Draft Number ‘358 - 1854’, ‘Collection No. 10 of No. 84 of 1853. Vol. 12’ and ‘Examiner’s Office’. The collection number was originally given as ‘9’ but this has been crossed out and replaced with ‘10’.
