"representative" in Damascus, who however has no
credentials or exequatur and generally seeks the
advice of the British consul. It will be noted from
page 30 oi the Report that Sir C.Clayton turned aside
a suggestion oi Ibn Baud’s that he should enter into
direct correspondence with the French authorities on
this matter. It is doubtful whether the French, let
alone Ibn Baud, will remain content with the present
arrangement. A recent report suggests that the
French autho-rities in Syria are contemplating the
appointment of a representative with Ibn Baud.
