The file is a memoir of the career of Major John Evelyn Arnold Bazalgette, covering his service in the British Army and in India and the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. .

The file consists of three parts. The first part is a draft of a short memoir entitled ‘Jack of all trades’, which recounts Bazalgette’s experience in the Indian Political Service The branch of the British Government of India with responsibility for managing political relations between British-ruled India and its surrounding states, and by extension the Gulf, during the period 1937-47. .
