My Lord Marquis,
With reference to paragraph 11 of our despatch in the Political Depart
ment, No. 185, dated 16th October 1874, we have now the honor to report, for
the information of Her Majesty’s Government, that we have transferred
Colonel Herbert to the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. at Oodeypoorin Eajpootana, and have
appointed the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Oodeypoor, Lieutenant-Colonel John Pigott
Nixon, to be Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in Turkish Arabia A term used by the British officials to describe the territory roughly corresponding to, but not coextensive with, modern-day Iraq under the control of the Ottoman Empire. .
2. We would request Your Lordship to take the necessary steps for in
vesting Lieutenant-Colonel Nixon with the powers of a Consul-General.

[Ottoman Iraq]. The despatch requests that Lieutenant-Colonel Nixon be invested with the powers of a Consul-General. It is in continuation of despatch No. 185, of 16 October 1874.
