No 337, dated 16th Rihi J I 1340, equal the 17th November 1921,

To-His Majesty’s Consul, Shiraz.
In accordance with your letter No. 13^,* after referring to the office of
maccoi j Governor-General of Ears, I took
* Enclosure 9. cognizance of the reply which you
had written to His Imperial Highness, No. 1376, regarding the operations of
the Oif Company at Dasht-i-Qir. ,. . . .
Tn reiily 1 bes to state that none has any objection (lit discussion). as
regards the operations of the said Company within the limits of its concession
and rights given to it by the Persian Government: but in respect to the
conclusion of an agreement with single subjects and tribes m that locality like
the Kaslikulis according to the instructions which have reached the
Karguzarate every proceeding and agreement, which the said Company wishes
to make with them, must be with the knowledge of the Governor-General of
Fars and Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Ashair. In this connection, of course, the necessary instruc
tions must have already reached the Consulate from the British Legation in
Tehran, and you will inform the Oil Company, and acquaint and oblige me
flpp.ordinsrlv.

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Highness 1 letter
No. 337t, dated the 16th Babi I’s and to
ncosuie ’ state that this and your former letter

Majesty’s Legation at Tehran fhr any action which His Majesty’s Charg6
d’Affaires may deem necessary.

Telegram R , No. 210, dated (and received) the'27th November 1921..
From—His Majesty’s Minister, Shiraz,
To—His Majesty’s Charge d’Affaires, Tehran..
(Repeated Bushire, Mohammerah and Baghdad for "Wilson.)
Prime Minister has telegraphed to the Governor-General that according to
Article 14 of the concession guards must be arranged by Persian Government
and according to Article 3 ownership of land to be worked must first be settled
with Governor-General to ascertain whether it is Government or private
property. Therefore agreement between Company and the Kashkulis which
infringes these articles must be null and void and Prince is to inform
Consulate accordingly. Finally Prime Minister asks for copy of agreement.
There is no mention of Soulat in the telegram which adds that you have been
similarly notified.
I have suggested in reply that Prime Minister be told that copy has been
sent you and will be shortly available for inspection, therefore no need to mak^
fresh Cv»py heie, but rest of matter is out of my hands and in yours.-
