VI. Bahrein and the JTru^i^ Co ast.

Tne Ruler Tnade tne iiaj in January. In the hot
weather he became seriously ill, but a visit to Karachi
greatly improved his health (p.30).
There was some agitation against the Bahrein
courts, and labour conditions in the Petroleum Company.
A strike attempted among local employes of the Company
petered out (p.3l).
The Shia Shera courts were reformed, and
further legal and educational reforms contemplated.
Cver 8,000,000 barrels of crude oil were
produced during the year.
Both imports and exports increased (p.33).
There was a dispute with Q,atar over the Hawar
Islands - the Sheikh of Qatar putting in a formal claim
of ownership (p.35^. The dispute has since been
adjudicated by H.M.G. in favour of Bahrein.
The Tru cial Coast ♦_
In October the Shaikh of Dubai was forced to
consent to formation of a State Majlis, and a
Municipality. H.M.G. continued to conduct its
relations witti the Shaiko (p.37).
Petroleum Concessions Ltd. surveyed small
areas, and obtained concessions from the Shaikhs of
Has al Khaimah and Kalba (p.37).

' prepared by the Political Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. in Bushire and printed at the Government of India Press in New Delhi for the years 1926-1938.
These annual reports are divided up into a number of separate reports for different geographical areas, usually as follows:
