/Sunday, Wth April, 1847.—P. M., Light breeze at NNE, and fine clear weather*
Departed this life Mariano Francisco. Sun-set, lowered the top-sails to a squall
at Northward. A. m., calm. Most of the Chinese, and all the Manilla men, sick of
the scurvy : many dead others dying. Invited all of them that were able, to come
to Divine service, to implore the great God in whose hands are the issues of life.
They came cheerfully, which could not be expected from them under ordinary
circumstances.
Latitude observed 5 ° 17 V North, Longitude 67° 50' East. Barometer 29 02,
Sympiesometer 29’91, Thermometer 89.
Monday, 12th April *—P. M., Variable light winds, with squalls.
At 2 A. M. a waterspout approached the ship. Barometer 29*88, Symp. 29-82.
At 3 a. M., a steady N.N.W. breeze set in and continued to increase. Latitude
observed 5° 41' North, longitude 68 ° SS'. Gt. Barometer 29 86 , Symp. 29*84,
Thermometer 862 . Sick— 1 st Officer, 2 Europeans, 5 Lascars A term used by the British officials to describe non-European sailors employed on East India Company ships. , 11 Chinese, and 13
Manilla-men.
Tuesday, \Wi April .—Fresh breeze at NNW. At 8 p. m., cloudy with light
ning all round. A. M., Fresh breeze at Northward, and cloudy.
