This item consists of copies of a Political Despatch from the Government of India Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, dated 21 March 1873, forwarding papers reporting the payment of compensation for a dhow A term adopted by British officials to refer to local sailing vessels in the western Indian Ocean. captured by HMS Daphne in 1869, and Captain Prideaux’s Mission to Maculla and Shuhur [Makalla and Shihr]; and deferring the renewal of treaties with those places until the result of Sir Bartle (Compton Arthur) Frere’s mission is known.
