request the King to confer upon him the distinction which they
had for some time had in contemplation and which would he

If His ’-'ajesty were prepared to confer upon him a Peerage, all
idea would be removed from his own mind and from that of the
public that any slight had been inflicted upon him : on the
contrary, it would be recognised that he had received at an
important moment a crowning .mark of the approbation both of his
Sovereign and of the Government he ted served.
