offences of the Wazirs against the Mahsuds,
but the former do not relish this way of settling
the case, and are buying ammunition and
making arrangements to get satisfaction after
their own fashion.
The Mulla Powindah is still occupied in a
vain endeavour to patch up the quarrels bet
ween the Mahsuds and Wazirs, and he is now
himself involved in another quarrel with the
Mulla Hamzulla, whose murder he is said to be
instigating.
Several Zadranis and Khostwals, as well
as a few Tanis and Saifalis, are migrating to
the Tochi from Afghan territory to escape the
oppression of the Amir’s officials. Measures

Canal.
The Powindah migration has set in, and
is progressing satisfactorily.

the Welsh Rrgiment (see Journals for May and
June), has been taken under the protection of
the Governor of Maruf, and is acting as a sort
of personal orderly to that official.
The sheep lifted from the Chaman border
by Afghan khassadars (see Journals for June
and July) have all been sold by auction in
Kandahar under orders of the Governor. The
raid is now said to have been committed in reta

khassadars of the Ismail Chah post, who were
captured while attempting to kidnap an Alizai
in British territory (see Journal for August).
The Afghan officials in Garmsel have
