A copy of a letter from the East India Company Envoy to Persia [Iran], Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to Meerza Abul Hassan Khan [ Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Abū al-Ḥasan Khān Shīrāzī], Persian Minister for Foreign Affairs, undated.
The letter concerns Macdonald Kinneir’s meeting with Meerza Abul Hassan Khan and the Kaim Mukam [ Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Abū al-Qāsim Farāhānī Qā’im-Maqām, Vizier to the Crown Prince of Persia] on the subject of the abrogation of the third and fourth articles of the Definitive Treaty, which concern British subsidies and military aid to Persia. Macdonald Kinneir complains of the conduct of the Kaim Mukam and demands an audience with the Shah [Fath-‘Ali Shāh Qājār].
This document was originally enclosed, numbered 1 in dispatch No. 110, in Macdonald Kinneir’s dispatch No. 36 to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company of 5 October 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/262).
