A copy of a letter from George Swinton, Chief Secretary to the Supreme Government of India, to Henry Willock, HM Chargé d’Affaires in Persia [Iran], sent from Fort William [Kolkata] and dated 26 March 1824.

The letter announces the appointment of Major John Macdonald Kinneir as Envoy of the Supreme Government of India to Persia, forwarding a letter to Macdonald (IOR/L/PS/9/69/214) and instructing Willock to hand over charge of his mission. It also announces Willock’s appointment as Secretary and Chief Assistant of the new mission.

The letter was enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company dated 14 August 1824 (IOR/L/PS/9/69/209).
