A translation of a letter from the Prince Royal [‘Abbās Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. , Crown Prince] of Persia [Iran] to George Canning, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, dated Jemadee el Awal [Jumāda al-Awwal] 1239 (January 1834).
The letter discusses the proposed transfer of responsibility for diplomatic relations between Persia and Britain to the British Government in India, as well as disputed points in the subsidy account, which the Prince proposes to send Major George Willock to India to discuss. The Prince also thanks Britain for mediating with the Ottoman Government.
The letter was enclosed in the letter of Henry Willock, HM Chargé d’Affaires in Persia, to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company dated 8 January 1824 (IOR/L/PS/9/69/140).
