A copy of a letter from Francis Warden, Chief Secretary to the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. [Mumbai], to Major-General William Grant Keir, Commander of the 1819 expedition to the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , sent from Bombay and dated 27 October 1819.

The letter contains instructions for Keir’s expedition to the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. to combat ‘piracy’. It also discusses the regional political situation surrounding the expedition, including relations with: Ibrahim Pacha [ Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. ], Commander of the Turkish [Ottoman] forces in Arabia; the Imaum [Imam] of Muscat; and Persia [Iran].

The letter was enclosed in the letter of Henry Willock, HM Chargé d'Affaires in Persia, to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping.
