About this record
- Content
The letter is acknowledging the commands of the Bombay Government (No 37 of 1822), which instructed the Resident to indemnify the boat owners from Charrack [Bandar-e Chārak] and Lingua [Bandar-e-Lengeh] from the Bushire treasury, for the vessels mistakenly captured/destroyed by British forces. The letter outlines the measures the Resident has taken to affect these orders.
Enclosed with the letter is a translation of a firmaun [ firman A Persian word meaning a royal order or decree issued by a sovereign, used notably in the Ottoman Empire (sometimes written ‘phirmaund’). ] from Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mirzā, Prince at Sheraz [Shiraz], received 21 August 1822. The firmaun acknowledges the receipt of various sums from the Resident to compensate various named individuals for the loss of their boats, in consequence of mistakes made by British forces.
