Your telegram of 5th V&y No. 1403.
1. Your paragraph 2 "Meaning" down to "disputed".
Recognition of Hamad as successor hy Government (which is all
we promise) does not coaanit us to giving him active support
more especially as His lajesty's Govcmment'e intervention in
internal affairs of Qatar is limited to diificulties arising
from presence of Oil Compuny vide paragraph S (c) of oy tele
gram of 22nd April Ho.372. Shaikh hitherto moreover in the
course of our conversations has not asked for this support.
If he does I shall have to make the necessary explanation.
If he does not I do not propose to raise the point at all as
should I do so it would merely put the Idea into his and
Hamad 1 s head that this support should be forthcoming.
2e paragraph 2 of my telegram of 9th Uay T/132. On
further consideration I do not propose on cy present visit to
take up with Shaiich question of draft letter which may lead
