The volume contains correspondence between the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , the Secretary of State for India and the Sheikh of Qatar about the Qatar Oil Concession and the protection offered to Qatar from His Majesty's Government, in exchange for the Oil Concession granted to the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC).
The volume includes:
- copies of the Concession and copies of correspondence with the Sheikh, in English and Arabic, and copies of the agreement between the British Government and APOC;
- draft clauses of pre-emption of oil in case of national emergency or war (ff. 38-39 and 74-75);
- correspondence from Air Headquarters to the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in Bahrain on the planning of an air reconnaissance of the neighbourhood in Doha;
- letters in English and Arabic from Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. informing the Shaikh of the reconnaissance and of the visit from the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , who gave him a Medal in commemoration of the King-Emperor's Silver Jubilee (f. 140).
