This image shows Muscat from the Mathra road, west or southwest of the town.

In the background, at left, the towers of Al-Mirani fort rise in front of the sea beyond.

Rocky outcrops rise from centre foreground and background to right of the image, while at centre the whitewashed buildings of the town can be seen.

A whitewashed building, perhaps a small mosque, can be seen behind some palm trees in the middle-ground to the left. Several poles, visible at left and centre of the image may be telegraph poles.
