Genre/Subject Matter:

This image shows a section of the ramparts around Muscat and the Mathra Gate (immediately left of centre).

Three men can be seen at centre walking towards the pointed arch of the gate, carrying round vessels on their shoulders. In the background on the right and in the background at centre, further figures can be seen.

High walls, in which arrowslits and other embrasures can be seen, extend from left to right across the scene. From left to right in the foreground a dry stone embankment runs below the main road into the Mathra gate.

In the background, at right, rocky hills can be seen.
