This letter acknowledges the receipt of Edward Galley's letters of 10 July, 3 September and 18 October 1784, together with a consignment of treasure, which arrived at Bombay via the Scorpion. This acknowledgement is followed by three enclosures: an extract from the Honourable Company's Commands to the Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. of Bombay (no. 37, dated 16 November 1784), which includes a list of writers appointed for the Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. ; and two extracts from an Act of Parliament (nos. 38 and 39), which obliges British subjects in India to reside within ten miles of a principal settlement.
