This letter acknowledges the receipt of Edward Galley's letter of 10 December 1786, which was delivered by the Scorpion Snow on 5 January 1787. The letter reports several changes to the structure of the Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. and accepts Galley's resignation. The letter includes the following enclosures:
- Copies of extracts from the Honourable Company's commands (dated 7 April 1786 and received 28 October 1786 from Fort St George);
- Copies of additional letters from 28 April 1786, which include a copy of the commission appointing Rawson Hart Boddam both as President and Governor of Bombay and as Commander-in-Chief of the forces under his Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , and a copy of a document revoking an earlier commission which had appointed Brigadier General Lawrence Nilson as Commander-in-Chief of the Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent.
