This letter, received on 16 November 1780, via the Mercury Packet, has no stated recipient, but it can be assumed to be addressed to the Resident at Bushire, John Beaumont. The letter begins by discussing the woollen trade. The authors then state that, further to Beaumont's request to be relieved of the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. , he is asked to hand over the Factory An East India Company trading post. to the new appointee, Edward Galley, who arrived on the Mercury (with salary to 31 March, diet money and passage allowances). Beaumont is requested to return to India on the Mercury .
