Content: The letter is a covering letter, enclosing an extract of paragraph 43 from a despatch from the Honourable Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. (folio 292), dated 27 April 1854. The extract relates to how the payment of damages to the victims of acts of piracy in the Gulf should be made. The proposal by Government is to make payments directly to the victims rather than to their chiefs, a decision which Shaikh Sooltan bin Suggar [Sultan bin Saqr] of Shargah has rejected.
