The file contains letters, telegrams, minutes, notes, and draft correspondence concerning the appointments and movements of staff at the Muscat Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. and Consulate. The correspondence deals with the granting of consular powers to the new appointee, and includes letters of appointment issued by the Foreign Office. These powers were requested by the Government of India and given by the King, via the Foreign Office. Other matters covered by the papers include:

The principal correspondents are the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and Consul at Muscat, Foreign Office, India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , Government of India (Foreign Department), Office of the High Commissioner for India, Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. and Consul-General at Bushire, and the Ministry of War Transport.
