number beds equipped for British troops in hospital 6,830, in Convalescent
Camp 3,050. Total number in Hospital Casualty Clearing Station and field
ambulances sick British Officers 307, British other ranks 5,644, wounded British
Officers 36, British other ranks 334, total number in Convalescent Camps,
British Officers 45, British other ranks 1,598, total number Convalescent on sea

The following wire which has crossed your 70282* of Novemlmr 6th has
been sent by General Marshall who
arrived at Alosnl yesterday accompanied
by Civil Commissioner. Benins. Following orders have been given to Ali
Ishan.
1. Mosul Vilayet to be completely evacuated by his troops. Town of
Mosul to be clear of them by noon, November 15tb. Withdrawal to commence
on ^ovember 8th. Such troops as cannot be clear of Mosul by November
lotli on account of distance are to follow as early as possible. General
Banshawe is to be given a list of troops and probable dates of arrival at Mosul.
■2. Bormations and units will take their arms with them. Batteries their
guns, equipment and ammunition. Cavalry and Infantry wuth bandolier
ammunition. All other guns, arms and ammunitions in magazines and depots
to be banded over to General Bansbawe who will give a receipt on behalf of
the British Government.
3. Turkish soldiers who are inhabitants of Mosul or country south of it
are to be demobilized immediately and handed over to General Banshawe with
nominal rolls, and he will arrange for their repatriation.
4. Turkish troops will be accompanied by such transport and supplies as
are necessary. All other Turkish Government supplies will be handed over to
General Banshawe who will give a receipt on behalf of the British Govern
ment. Meanwhile the purchase of supplies by British will be facilitated in
every way possible by Ali Ishan.
5. Turkish civil administration both in Vilayet and town of Mosul to
remain as at present. Officers of tbe British civil administration to be respon
sible to the British Political Officer appointed for the purpose for maintaining
la\v and order until further orders, and police and gendarmerie to remain at
their posts. British civil authorities will evacuate civil inhabitants who desire
to return to their homes.
6. Archives will remain in charge of present Turkish officials under orders
of British Political officer concerned but recruiting agencies in Mosul town
and Vilayet will be closed.
Ali Ishan has agreed to carry out these orders hut as he has not received
instructions from his Government in the matter he does so under protest.

Paragraph 2 of above orders, it will be noted, does not entirely agree with
instructions contained in your telegram
