The following six motor latinches have been ordered
4 30' teakwood motor launches fitted with 20 H. P. “ Kermath ”
motors.
1—-80' teakwood motor launch fitted with 20 E. P. “ Regal ” motor.
1—26' teakwood motor launch fitted with 14 H. P. “ Regal ” motor.
The two latter have already been despatched to Bombay.
Enquiries are being made regarding the price of various new hulls offered
tor sale and also as to the number of motors available in India. It is not con
sidered possible to secure all the necessary motors in India for the required
number of motor boats and is proposed to obtain most of these from England.
As regards the demand for 80 motors, it may be possible to obtain 20—30
motors of various makes in India, but from the foregoing it will be seen that
this will be needed in the construction of the motor boats. It will, therefore,
be necessary for you to indent on England for these 80 engines.
With respect to the 30 boats in frames and planks there are no firms in
India who supply fabricated wooden boats. The type of boats supplied by
American firms is of very light construction and of soft woods, but if yon
deem these qualities not detrimental, orders can be placed, though deliyerv is
hound to be quite uncertain owing to recent rigid restrictions in American
exports.
Should yon decide not to proceed further with this part of your requisi
tion the 30 launches can be constructed here, but if boats in frames and planks
are particularly required some Home firm may undertake to supply.
