A letter to the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company from William Phipps, Supervisor at Mocha, dated 20 July 1721. It was received via the ship Sunderland on 19 March 1721 [New Style date 19 March 1722], and was read in the Court on 22 March 1721 [New Style date 22 March 1722]. The letter discusses Phipps’s journey to Mocha from the Cape of Good Hope, and affairs at Mocha, including: his correspondence with the Imaum [Imam]; Phipps sending the Directors myrrh on board the Sunderland , but being unable to obtain any aloe socatrina [socotrina]; and the inaccuracy of weights and measures at Mocha.
