inta effect, before the position of Great Britain in the Mosul area was
on a more regular footing, and that pending this, it had been decided not
to move further in the matter.
It would seem that-out definite acceptance of a mandate for the Mosul
area has regularised our position, therefore I feel that I may now ask
if this matter will come up again.
If you wish it, I will write a letter dealing with the matter more p&rtio*
^ularly, addressed to you, which you can forward to the proper place.
The Archbishop of Canterbury declared himself ready to take such action
in the matter as Major Bowman had suggested, as soon as he was asked to do
so by the government.
3. In December, 1918, X was sent out to Mesopotamia, to assist in the
repatriation of the Baqubah refugees, because it was thought that my local
knowledge might be useful.
Finding that the delay before the repatriation would be very long, I asked
for leave to return home, as I had been out of England for fully five year
offering to return, if it appeared that I should be useful, so soon as the
repatriation actually carne upon the tapis.

Included in the correspondence are letters from Surma Khanin D’Mar Shimun describing the situation of the camp and asking for changes to the camp, and for the return of the Assyrians and Armenians. In addition, there are some inquiries received by British officials from Christian Assyrians.
