Referring to our conversation of some days
ago aid in compliance with your wishes, I have
the honour %o approach you on "behalf of my com
patriots on the subject of repatriation of the
Assyrian people to their former homes in TJrumia
and vicinity*
Por many years past we and our ancestors
lived in Urumia and the neighbouring districts
and have all ways been obedient and loyal to the
Persian Government and regularly paid all taxes
imposed on us by the Government*
We may say that the Persian Government have
been satisfied and pleased, with the valuable
services rendered by us and we were also very
contented with the ftlendly treatment we received
until the year 1914*
Unfortunately the necessities of the general
European war temporarily compelled us to leave
our country and abandon .our homes and property
and to sustain a loss of nearly one-third of our
Assyrian people♦
Inasmuch as the war has now terminated we
desire to return to our former homes in Urumia
and vicinity, and that we wilJI defend the laws of
the country and will bear true faith and allegiance
to the Persian Government. Being a small nation
it never occurred to us to form an independent
